City’s fire rating decreases after recent survey

Residents could see a drop in their property insurance following an improved fire rating for the city that was issued earlier this summer.

Chief Henry Davis with the Gluckstadt Fire Department said a Fourth Class fire rating has been his goal for some time. He said residents will see the benefits when they renegotiate their insurance premiums.

“The lower the rating, the better insurance rates are,” Davis told city officials at the city board meeting earlier this month.

The exact affect it will have on any individual property owner is hard to determine as the fire rating is only one of many factors.

Other elements include specific construction, occupancy, private protection and exposure from adjacent buildings.

GFD received the rating based on a recent survey of fire prevention and protection facilities in the area.

The rating went in to effect on July 22.
