Wyndham hotel site plans get the green light
A proposed 57,479 square-foot Wyndham hotel on the northeast end of Autobahn Loop here has taken another step toward becoming a reality.
Aldermen approved site plans and two conditional use variances for the proposed four-story 110-room Wyndham-branded hotel at their regular meeting earlier this month.
City officials pointed out that the height of the building was compatible with the tallest ladder truck available to the Gluckstadt Fire Department and would not be an issue in case of a fire.
The hotel will be part of a development on more than four acres just off the interstate. The development will feature the hotel and 10,00 square feet of retail space. Developers said that retail space will include a restaurant.
The specific restaurant has yet to be determined. Developers said they wanted to work with city officials to see what the “identity” of that restaurant might be before they start to recruit a tenant for the space.
Representatives for the developers, D&S Investment Group, said at the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting last month they would like to start work soon after they receive approval from aldermen.
Variances for both parking and height were approved by the commission.
Commission members also asked that a walking path between the retail space and hotel be established in the plans.
Commission members asked the building to be considered “a beacon” to Gluckstadt built right off the interstate. They asked that developers consider a “German” design.
