Wyndham hotel planned for Gluckstadt
A proposed 57,479 square-foot hotel on the northeast end of Autobahn Loop here has taken another step toward becoming a reality.
The Planning and Zoning Commission approved site plans and two conditional use variances for a proposed Wyndham-branded hotel here Tuesday night.
The hotel will be part of a development on more than four acres just off the interstate. The development will feature the hotel and 10,00 square feet of retail space. Developers said that retail space will include a restaurant.
The specific restaurant has yet to be determined. Developers said they wanted to work with city officials to see what the “identity” of that restaurant might be before they start to recruit a tenant for the space.
Representatives for the developers, D&S Investment Group, said they would like to start work soon after they receive approval from the city board. The items will go before Gluckstadt aldermen at a future meeting.
Planning and Zoning granted variances for both parking and height.
Commission members also asked that a walking path between the retail space and hotel be established in the plans. They asked that since the height variance was granted, the building would be among the tallest in the city.
Commission members asked the building to be considered “a beacon” to Gluckstadt built right off the interstate. They asked that developers consider a “German” design as they continue to work on plans.
