Whataburger set to open in Madison Dec. 2
MADISON — The new Whataburger here is just weeks away from opening.
The Texas-based burger chain has a target opening date of Dec. 2 on Grandview Boulevard at Main Street near I-55.
Developer Bridgeforth Rutledge said work on the building is in the final stages.
“I would say they are about 95 percent complete,” Rutledge said. “They have done an extensive renovation inside and out of the building.”
The building will feature all-white signage and forego the brand's trademark orange.
Rutledge said specifically Whataburger has worked on the parking lot and doubled the size of the building’s kitchen.
“They are prepared to be a high-volume, high-capacity restaurant,” Rutledge said. “Which I think they can do.”
The new restaurant’s lease at 1863 Main Street started in March, roughly a year after the previous tenant, Backyard Burger, closed in March of 2023.
Whataburger was founded in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1950. They serve made-to-order burgers, fries, and chicken sandwiches, among other things, including breakfast.
This will be the second in Madison County. Currently, there is one in Ridgeland on County Line Road.
They are now headquartered in San Antonio and have more than 1,000 restaurants in 15 states.
Rutledge said the new restaurant here has managers in place, and information about job opportunities are available at whataburger.com.
