Walmart to carry COVID vaccine
COVID-19 vaccinations are now available at two Walmart locations in Madison County, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health.
The Walmart at 127 Grandview Boulevard in Madison and the Walmart at 244 Feather Lane in Canton are now offering COVID-19 vaccinations to eligible Mississippians.
Also, free drive-through vaccinations are being offered Feb. 11 an 12 at Canton High School, 634 Finney Road in Canton to eligible Mississippians.
The state of Mississippi is currently giving COVID19 immunizations for the following:
• All healthcare workers and EMT/paramedics
• Persons age 65 or older or those with pre-existing conditions.
People who would like to receive the vaccine are encouraged to determine their eligibility through the Mississippi State Department of Health’s website at msdh.ms.gov.
To schedule a free drive-through vaccination, go to covidvaccine.umc.edu or call 1-877-978-6453. The website is the best option, officials have said.
The selected Walmarts, pharmacies, local clinics and hospitals that are now offering a limited number of COVID-19 vaccinations and can be found at msdh.ms.gov/c19appointment#local.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases numbers are dropping in the latest combined Madison County schools report provided by the MSDH with 281 students being quarantined in the county’s private and public schools for the week of Feb. 2-5, the latest date for which information is available.
That number of quarantined students is down from 340 students quarantined the week of Jan. 25-29, according to MSDH and the number of students who tested positive for COVID-19 between Feb. 2-5 is down to as many as 60 from as many as 80 the previous reporting period between Jan. 25-29.
The latest figures show between one and five students testing positive at 12 schools in Madison County between Feb. 2-5.
The number of deaths in Madison County continue to increase as another six were reported in the last week, bringing the total here to 188.
New cases in Madison County are growing at a slower pace this week than last with 195 new cases reported this week as compared to 273 new cases reported last week.
The total number of cases in Madison County now stands at 9,204, up from 9,009 last week.
On Wednesday, the MSDH identified 784 new cases of COVID-19 across the state with 25 new deaths.
In total, 283,753 cases have been reported across the state with 6,367 deaths since the pandemic began last March.
Much of Mississippi, including Madison, Rankin and Hinds counties, remain under a mask mandate and social distancing orders by Gov. Tate Reeves through March 3.
