Vernie M. Meadows

Vernie M. Meadows, 95, of Madison, fell asleep in the Lord at home on February 11, 2022. Vernie was born to Ward and Lelia McLendon on February 9, 1927, and raised in Simpson County.  She graduated from High School there and married Luther Meadows, also of Simpson County, on July 21, 1945. They moved to Birmingham where Luther began his work career after he graduated from college. During this time their son, James, was born.

The family moved to Jackson in 1954 and Vernie became a Kindergarten teacher at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Later Luther had a long and successful career as a State Farm Insurance Agent, and Vernie became his office manager for many years. She loved painting, reading, ceramics and especially traveling with Luther.

Vernie is survived by her son, Rev. Fr. James Meadows (wife Sharon); his two granddaughters, Joanna Meadows Davis (husband, Jay), and Amanda Meadows Hines (husband, Joseph, and son, Hunter), all of Madison.

Funeral services for Vernie Meadows will be held at Parkway Funeral Home at 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, on Tuesday, February 15th at 12pm.  Visitation will be held there from 10:30am-12pm prior to the funeral service. She will be buried afterwards at Mendenhall Cemetery, in Simpson County.
