UPDATE: Parts of Madison under precautionary Boil Water Notice
MADISON — Public works officials here say the precautionary boil water notice issued Tuesday evening for more than 3,000 connections in the city was due to a drop of water pressure due to human error during the routine cleaning of a nearby tower.
Senior Director of Operations Pete Vozzo said the temporary loss of pressure was due to human error during the routine cleaning of the tower on Tisdale Road close to the Highway 51 intersection. A valve was not fully turned back on during the routine cleaning.
“There was never a loss of containment, meaning no containments could have entered the system,” Vozzo said.
According to Vozzo, the problem was reported around 5:45 p.m. and was fixed by 6:05 p.m. He said the water boil notice issued soon after for customers east of Crawford Street was “precautionary” and “above and beyond” what is required of the Public Works Department following a loss of water pressure.
The department is required to have a water sample tested by the Mississippi State Department of Health before they lift the notice. He said he expected to hear back from MSDH by Wednesday afternoon.
