UMMC, Blue Cross reach agreement

The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi (Blue Cross) have reached an agreement regarding acceptance of the insurance at the state’s largest hospital.

Effective Dec. 15, all UMMC facilities, physicians and other individual Professional Providers are fully participating Network Providers for all Blue Cross commercial health plans, including the Federal Employee Plan and Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans from other states.

Since April, the pair had a falling out over contract renewal.

This resulted in nearly a year of UMMC being an outof-network, forcing individuals to pay out of pocket to receive care at one of UMMC’s six hospitals or 30 clinics across the state.

The terms of the contracts are confidential.
