Two arrested in Madison for auto burglary

Madison police say that two Petal teens are in custody suspected in a series of auto burglaries in the Reunion Subdivision.

Trevor Sterling Simmons, 19, and Elijah T. Walker, 18, both of Petal, have both been charged with auto burglary.

Captain Kevin Newman said that a third suspect, a juvenile, has been identified and remains at large.

Newman said that on Tuesday morning, October 27, MPD received numerous reports of automobile burglaries in the Reunion Subdivision in Madison that had apparently occurred during the overnight or early morning hours.

The subsequent investigation by responding officers determined that all of the vehicles involved were left unlocked the previous evening.

“Residents are strongly reminded to always lock their vehicles and not to leave valuable items inside them,” Newman said. “Leaving valuable items in unlocked cars and trucks creates tempting opportunities for would-be thieves. Please do your part in helping to keep Madison crime-free by locking your vehicles.”

Numerous items, including cash, wallets, firearms, and purses were taken from the unlocked vehicles. Newman said that further investigation led to Simmons's arrest and recovery of some of the stolen property.

Investigators were able to identify two more suspects involved in the incidents one of whom was Walker.

The cases remains under investigation.
