Teams face off in holiday tourneys
With basketball season in full swing, several teams from around the area will be playing in holiday tournaments throughout the area, as they make their final preparations before getting into the thick of region and district play.
Starting on the MHSAA girls basketball side, Madison Central will host the Jungle Bells Christmas Classic on December 27th and 28th and play in Tangle on the Trail in Pontotoc on January 4th, Germantown will play in the Pearl Christmas Tournament on December 27th and 28th, Ridgeland will play in the Jungle Bells Christmas Classic at Madison Central on December 27th, Canton will play in the Jungle Bells Christmas Class on both December 27th and 28th, and Velma Jackson will play in the Pearl Christmas Tournament on December 27th and 28th.
There will be several key matchups to watch out for in these holiday tournaments for local teams, highlighted by Canton taking on Brandon on December 28th, Germantown matching up with North Pike on December 27th, and Madison Central playing Tishomingo County on January 4th.
As for the MHSAA boys squads in the area, Madison Central will play in the Gulfport Christmas Tournament December 26th-28th and Germantown will play in the King Cotton Classic in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on December 27th, 28th, and 30th.
Madison Central will open up the Gulfport Christmas Tournament with a matchup against Pass Christian, while Germantown will open up the King Cotton Classic with a game against Little Rock Hall (AR).
The MAIS girls area holiday tournament slate will feature Jackson Prep playing in the JA Christmas Classic on December 27th and the Jungle Bells Christmas Classic on December 28th, Jackson Academy will host the JA Christmas Classic on December 27th and 28th, MRA will play in the Dragon Fire Classic on December 26th-28th in Collierville, Tennessee, St. Joseph will play in the Copiah Academy Christmas Rush on December 27th and 28th, Tri-County Academy will play in the Canton Academy Christmas Tournament on December 27th and 28th, and Canton Academy will host the Canton Academy Christmas Tournament on December 27th and 28th.

As for the MAIS area boys teams, Jackson Prep will play in the Big Orange Classic in Hoover, Alabama on December 26th-28th, Jackson Academy will host the JA Christmas Classic on December 27th and 28th, MRA will play in the Arby’s Classic in Bristol, Tennessee on December 26th-28th, St. Joseph will play in the Copiah Academy Christmas Rush on December 27th and 28th, and both Canton Academy and Tri-County Academy will play in the Canton Academy Christmas Tournament.
