Madison’s Swing into Summer makes its 2022 debut on May 5 downtown behind the red caboose.

The popular event gives parents time to relax and listen to bands like Roughwater and Patrick Harkins while kids enjoy train rides and other activities.

Amy Cummins, events coordinator for the city of Madison, said Swing into Summer happens on May 5 and May 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“This is my first time coordinating Swing Into Summer, and my goal is for families to come out and have a fun time,” Cummins said.

“I think people are ready to get out again and do things. We want families to come out and enjoy themselves and the nice weather.”

Cummins said families can expect music from the RuffWater Band on May 5 and the Patrick Harkins Band on May 19.

Inflatables and crafts for the kids will also be available.

“We’ll also have train rides and other fun activities on both days,” Cummins said.

“We’ll be serving free hot dogs and popcorn for the kids provided by Community Bank of Madison.

“It’s a free, family-friendly event where you can bring your chairs and blankets and listen to your music while your kids play. It’s an event the city always likes to put on to bring people in for the summer.”

Event participants can find Swing into Summer in the same place as last year, behind the red caboose.

Parking will be across the street at First Baptist Church.

“I think the adults will love the music and the fact they can relax while the kids play,” Cummins said. “It gives the parents something to do while the kids have fun.”

Cummins added that the Madison Farmer’s Market begins in June and runs every Tuesday until July from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
