Sugar Daze offers fresh, homemade desserts

Sugar Daze Dessert Shop owner Anna McQuillen said her shop is all about making tasty desserts from scratch and seeing people return to her shop and become regulars.

“As soon as they come through the door, I know what they want to order,” McQuillen said. “It’s rewarding to see them come back.”

McQullen opened Sugar Daze in June 2022 when she decided she had outgrown her home kitchen and small double oven.

“I live in Gluckstadt and I’ve been baking out of my home for around two years,” she said. “I knew I needed a bigger space and storefront, something I’ve always wanted. I also wanted to be close to home, and I thought Gluckstadt could use a cute bakery. This is where I settled.”

Sugar Daze offers a variety of desserts, such as cookies, daily cake cups, cheesecake, chess squares, and a special dessert called a Carmellita (which consists of an oat cookie crust with chocolate chips and caramel in the middle).

The shop also specializes in catering to events such as weddings, birthday parties, and baby showers.

McQuillen said she had a little help from her husband and family when creating the store, but everything else, from the recipes to all of the designs, are her ideas.

Sugar Daze Dessert Shop is located at 102 Dees Drive in between Pot and Paddle Jambalaya Kitchen and Rice Cafe Sushi. Their hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
