State champion basketball teams honored at capital

Three local state championship basketball teams were honored by the Mississippi State Senate last Thursday, with multiple resolutions being passed to congratulate the schools for their title wins.

Germantown was honored with Senate Resolution 83 by Senators Bradford Blackman and Walter Michel, following their first state title in school history. The Mavericks defeated Madison Central 69-52 on February 27th in the MHSAA 7A state championship game. 

Ridgeland was presented with Senate Resolution 117 by Senators Bradford Blackman, Walter Michel, and John Horhn, after their first state championship in school history. The Titans defeated Olive Branch 79-53 on March 1st in the MHSAA 6A state championship game. 

Canton was honored with Senate Resolution 77 by Senators Bradford Blackman and Joseph C. Thomas Sr., following their second consecutive state championship win. The Tigers secured back-to-back titles with a 53-35 win over Holmes County Central on February 28th in the MHSAA 5A state championship game.
