St. Joe, MRA top infections
Two private schools in Madison County are reporting the most cases of COVID-19 amongst students, new data released on Tuesday from the Mississippi State Department of Health shows.
Madison-Ridgeland Academy has 23 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 amongst students since school reopened in August. St. Joseph Catholic School has seven confirmed cases and one outbreak, associated with members of the volleyball team, since school began in August.
No other public school or private school located in Madison County had cases above 1-5, as designated by MSDH, with several schools having zero cases altogether. The schools and student cases are: Ann Smith Elementary (0), Camden Elementary (0), East Flora Elementary (0), Germantown High School (1-5), Germantown Middle School (0), Highland Elementary (0), Luther Branson Elementary (0), Madison Avenue Elementary (0), Madison Avenue Upper Elementary (0), Madison Central High School (1-5), Madison Crossing Elementary (0), Madison Middle School (1-5), Madison Station Elementary (0), Mannsdale Elementary 1-5), Mannsdale Upper Elementary (0), Old Towne Middle School (0), Ridgeland High School (0), Rosa Scott (1-5), Shirley Simmons Middle School (0), St. Andrew’s (1-5), St. Anthony Catholic School (0), and Velma Jackson (0).
A number students and teachers/staff have been quarantined for exposure within the last week, with the highest faculty at St. Andrew’s with 10 and the highest student count at Germantown High School with 58.
Executive orders issued by Gov. Tate Reeves expired on Wednesday and extended the same day with lighter restrictions on gathering capacity.
This is the first week that the state has released information on different schools.
On Wednesday, the state reported 552 new cases and 12 new deaths.
In Madison County, 3,341 total cases have been identified.
In total, 98,190 Mississippians have either been confirmed or presumed to have COVID-19, with 2,969 total deaths.
As of Wednesday, the state reported 90 COVID-related deaths in Madison County. There have been 238 cases in long-term care facilities and 45 deaths.
