St. Joe cheerleading squad captures first place

The St. Joseph Catholic School varsity cheerleaders won the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools state championship in the organization’s statewide spirit competition.

The team won Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, in the Medium Non-Tumble category. St. Joe cheerleaders competed at the Mississippi Coliseum against six cheer teams from other MAIS schools across the state.

In addition to the cheer team, the St. Joe Spirit Steppers dance team took third place in the Small Varsity Kick Division and the Small Varsity Pom Division. The Spirit Steppers competed against four dance teams. And the Junior Varsity cheer squad finished third among JV teams at the competition.

St. Joseph Catholic School, founded in 1870 by the Sisters of Mercy, offers seventh- through 12th-grade students of all faith backgrounds a rigorous college prep curriculum grounded in the teachings of the Catholic Church.
