St. Andrew's wins track and field state titles
St. Andrew’s track and field put together a strong showing at the MHSAA 2A track state championships, winning both the girls and boys titles for the first time in the same year in school history.
On the girls side, St. Andrew’s put together a dominant performance, coming away with a 165 score. The Lady Saints led second-place Newton, who scored a 64, by over 100 points.
Individually, seventh grader Evelyn Spelling won the 400 Meter Dash and 800 Meter Run, seventh grader Mary Cecilia Neely won the 1600 Meter Run, eighth grader Lily Halter won the 3200 Meter Run, senior Stella Jolly won the High Jump, and freshman Morgan Lee won the Pole Vault.
Sophomore Sarah Dial Almand, freshman Tinsley McLaughlin, freshman Parker Lee, freshman Laurel Bergin, and freshman Georgia Paduda also had top-five finishes in various individual events.
The St. Andrew’s girls 4x400 Meter Relay and 4x800 Meter Relay teams also won state titles in its events.
On the boys side, the Saints finished with a score of 126, defeating second-place Northside, who finished with a 106 score.
Individually, sophomore William Skelton won the 800 Meter Run and freshman Jackson Jumper won the 1600 Meter Run and 3200 Meter Run.
Senior Noah Stamps, senior Richard Burrow, freshman Camp Tarver, senior Finley Bergin, junior Justin Willis, senior Arthur Gauthier, sophomore Bradford Swinney, and senior Holden Caraway also had top-five finishes in various individual events.
St. Andrew’s teams also finished fifth in the 4x100 Meter Relay, fifth in the 4x400 Meter Relay, and second in the 4x800 Meter Relay.
This is the second consecutive state championship for the St. Andrew’s boys track and field team.
