St. Andrew’s Episcopal senior student Michael John Davis has been named Volunteer of the Month for July at the Mississippi Children’s Museum (MCM). Davis has been a volunteer since March of 2016.  He has accomplished over 61.20 volunteer hours at the museum!

“Michael John has always gone above and beyond since becoming a volunteer,” said Sharon Griffin, MCM Volunteer Coordinator. “His eagerness to learn from members of our staff and the way he thoughtfully engages with museum visitors make him stand out.  He has become more comfortable talking to a variety of children from different backgrounds – Michael John has a very bright future ahead of him!”

When considering volunteer opportunities, the thought of working with children really sparked Davis’ interest. “Knowing that I’m helping a great organization serve the children of Mississippi in a safe and secure environment means so much,” said Davis. “Also, even though I’m 18 years old, I really am just a big kid at heart.”  “Furthermore, volunteering at MCM puts me in a positive mood; because everyone involved is loving and caring, and I learned to develop greater patience while interacting with the children” said Davis.

When asked if he would recommend volunteering at MCM to others, Davis had this to say: “Of course! It's a great opportunity if you have spare time that you're willing to invest in your community, and I observed the children genuinely having a great time playing in the different exhibit areas, and that the MCM staff was keeping the museum very clean and sanitized during this COVID-19 time. MCM is the BEST place to volunteer."

MCM is honored to have young people like Michael John Davis assisting us as volunteers and role models. To find out more about volunteering at MCM, please visit our website at www.mschildrensmuseum.org.
