Longtime Madison County School Board member Wayne Jimenez has resigned the position he has held for 15 years, school officials said.

Jimenez resigned effective July 12 after he moved out of Madison County School District 1 that he represents, said Gene Wright, communications director for the Madison County Schools.

“He will be sorely missed,” Wright said. “I’m sure there will be an outpouring of appreciation for him because he has been such an asset to our school district for so many years.”

Wright said school board members will appoint an interim member to fill the remainder of Jimenez’s term that ends December 2022.

“That vacancy will be filled at the board’s next meeting (in August),” Wright said.
