RIDGELAND — Road work on the Bob Anthony Parkway across the Ross Barnett Reservoir Dam, scheduled to begin this week, is expected to slow traffic in the area during non-peak hours.

The Pearl River Valley Water Supply District issued a notice Tuesday that work crews from the Mississippi Department of Transportation was set to begin the first phase of a two-part overlay of the lower road on Wednesday.

The project — expected to take at least two months weather permitting — will begin with excavation and the filling of trouble spots on the lower (east-bound) road. Motorists can expect lane closures between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.

The second phase will include a complete overlay of the entire lower road, and will require closure of one of the two lanes each day.

Minor work will be completed on the upper road, but the PRVWSD said that work should not impact the morning commute between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m.

Work crews from the district will also need to close the left lane of the lower road starting June 15 in order to repair a slide area near the east end of the dam. Equipment used for that project will be staged in the left lane in that area from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
