R’land firefighters battle blaze
RIDGELAND — Firefighters battled a blaze for close to eight hours early Wednesday morning that had spread inside the wall of a warehouse on East State Street.
RFD Chief Matt Bailey said firefighters were called to the warehouse on East State Street at about 12:52 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1. Bailey said the insulation in between the sheetrock and metal siding had caught fire inside the building.
Firefighters had to tear away sheet rock to fight the flames, according to Bailey. He reported firefighters were on the scene until close to 9 a.m. later that morning.
East State Street runs between U.S. 51 and Ridgewood Road near Repeat Street.
No injuries have been reported and Bailey said no one was at the warehouse at the time of the fire.
“We are still investigating,” Bailey said, noting the cause “could be anything.”
He said investigators are looking into a possible connection with a fire RFD responded to on Tuesday evening between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. in which some grass between two trailers on nearby Mobile Estates Drive caught fire.
