RIDGELAND — Parks and Recreation officials have unveiled more than $100,000 in improvements to the walking trails at Friendship Park.

This is the first time the mile-long walking trail has been resurfaced since 2005, John Sidney North, Director of Recreation and Parks, said.

The city received $90,000 from the recreation trails program provided by the Federal Highway Administration and administered locally by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.

The city contributed just $18,023 to this project.

“These improvements are vital for enhancing the quality of life for Ridgeland residents, encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle,” North said.

North said the City was awarded the grant on October 20, 2023. The project was started on Aug. 12 and completed on Aug. 30.

In addition to the walking trail, the parking lot has been resurfaced using budgeted funds.

“We invite everyone to enjoy the revitalized space and enjoy these great enhancements,” North said.

Friendship Park is located at 475 Lake Harbour Drive in Ridgeland.
