The city of Ridgeland was named an officials stop on the National League of Cities Centennial Roadshow: 100 Years, 100 Cities, city officials said.
This initiative is part of NLC’s year-long celebration, marking a century of commitment to advancing local government and advocating for the interests of cities, towns and villages nationwide, Clarence Anthony, CEO and Executive Director of the National League of Cities, said.
“It is truly an honor for NLC to spotlight remarkable municipalities, like Ridgeland that have made significant contributions to the advancement of local government over the past 100 years,” Anthony said.
As part of the roadshow the City of Ridgeland has highlighted the recent unveiling of the Ridgeland History Trail and details regarding Ridgeland’s 125th Anniversary year, Mayor Gene McGee said.
“I've been a member of the National League of Cities for many years, and it's incredibly exciting to see Ridgeland highlighted as part of the Centennial Roadshow,” McGee said. “I’m so proud of our community and thrilled about this recognition.”
Ridgeland unveiled the History Trail on Oct. 1, with a community and press event at the the Plaza at Old Town Crossing off of Jackson Street showcasing the 22 historical markers.
The roadshow is organized by NLC and includes in-person and digital stops to 100 cities in regions of the country, aimed at spotlighting the diversity, resilience, and transformation of America’s local communities, Anthony said.
“Cities across the country have played a pivotal role in moving communities forward and has a unique story that showcases transformative change,” Anthony said.
The roadshow kicked off in February at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, where NLC was founded.
“As we continue to celebrate the advancement of cities over the past 100 years and chart a course for the next 100 years, I am more excited than ever for the future of cities, towns and villages and look forward to continuing the important work I know we will do together,” Anthony said.
Since February, the roadshow has toured cities of all sizes to showcase the unique stories of municipalities like Ridgeland.
