Rice Road extension nears completion

RIDGELAND — Traffic is flowing more smoothly along U.S. 51 after work at the Rice Road extension project reduced traffic to one lane north and one lane south Friday and Monday.
The lanes were reopened by 2 p.m. Monday, Ridgeland Public Works Director Alan Hart said.
When completed, the Rice Road project will open an extension of Rice Road west of U.S. 51 to provide an alternate entryway to the new Ridgeland City Center at U.S. 51 and West School Street that opened earlier this year.
The road was initially expected to open this year but contractor delays have pushed the opening to January 2022.
