Rev. Julius C. Thompson, Sr.
Rev. Julius C. Thompson, Sr. known affectionately as “Brother” Thompson, passed away August 22, 2024.
Funeral services were held on August 27, 2024, at The Chapel of First Baptist Church Jackson, MS.
Rev. Thompson was born on October 8, 1931, in Morton, MS. He became a Christian at age 14, was baptized at Leesburg Baptist Church, and left an amazing Christian legacy. He is a graduate of Branch High School, Clarke College, Mississippi College, and New Orleans Baptist Seminary, and he attended Vanderbilt University. Rev. Thompson pastored the following churches: Winn Baptist Jackson, AL (1950-51), Pleasant Grove Baptist (1950-51), Liberty Baptist (1950-52), Sardis Baptist (1952-53), First Baptist Polkville (1951-54), Bowie Street Baptist in Hattiesburg, MS (1954-57), Hollywood Baptist in Memphis, TN (1957-61), Dalewood Baptist in Nashville, TN (1961-71), First Baptist Church Rockville, MD (1971-74), Ridgecrest Baptist in Jackson, MS (1974-81). From 1981-2000, Rev. Thompson served as Director of Church Administration Pastoral Ministries at the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board. After he retired, he served as a Professor and Director of the New Orleans Baptist Seminary Extension Center at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison, MS. Rev.
Rev. Thompson is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Alma Thompson, four brothers, Felix Thompson, Jimmy Joe Thompson, William “Buddy” Thompson, and Shelby Thompson, and two sisters, Catherine Shoemaker and Laura Barnes. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Wood Thompson, his two children, Julius Carter Thompson, Jr (Wendy) of Ridgeland and Melanie Thompson Hodge (David) of Meridian, five grandsons, Alston Thompson, Graham Hodge, Marshall Hodge, Keith Thompson, and Carter Thompson, who were the light of his life, and two sisters, Oleta Cooper and Peggy Huggins.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Jackson or New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
