The Gluckstadt Police Department continues to flourish with their eighth police offer joining the force on Tuesday.

Officer John Ramsey was sworn in at the end of Gluckstadt’s July 12 Mayor and Board of Alderman meeting after being introduced by Police Chief Wendell Watts.

“Mr. John Ramsey is someone we hired during a special session,” Watts said. “He was scuba diving and couldn’t be sworn in at that time.”

Watts said Ramsey is joining the GPD as an officer, and he comes from the Office of the Inspector General. He said Ramsey is retired with them and comes with a lot of knowledge and experience at the federal level and has worked with the U.S. Marshals Service.

“We’re looking forward to him coming out and enforcing the law here in the city of Gluckstadt,” Watts said.

In other matters for the police department, the board:

• Unanimously approved the financing of five new Dodge Durango vehicles for police officers at $40,385 per vehicle.

• Unanimously approved a Memo of Understanding for condensed policy and procedures of the Gluckstadt Police Department.

• Unanimously approved a Take-Home Car Policy which allows Gluckstadt police officers to take their police vehicles home to take care of themselves.

• Unanimously approved the Body-Worn Camera Policy for Gluckstadt Police Officers.
