After 10 years in the dog grooming field, Reka Cleveland has opened her own shop in Ridgeland off of Pear Orchard Road.

Cleveland owns The Puppy Lodge with her husband, who custom-built much of the interior of the storefront in between a salon and martial arts gym.

"We built everything inside the store," Cleveland said. "We were able to make it like it was in our mind."

Cleveland, who is from Madison, started her career after high school when she was looking for a job.

"Basically, I graduated high school and I had to find a job," Cleveland said. "I had never owned a dog, I had applied at a place that grooms dogs and I just fell in love with it."

Now, she has three dogs of her own, including Yaya, who comes to work with her every day.

The shop employs about five groomers. They offer grooming services, daycare and hygiene and other dog maintenance education for new dog owners. Grooming series include baths, full-body haircuts and nails.

They also sell a variety of dog beds, clothes, toys and accessories.

"Really, we do anything that can be done to make a dog look spectacular," Cleveland said.

Through her years she has developed a specialty. She is known as the Doodle Lady for her care of that breed of dog.

"I can work on any breed of dog but for some reason, I get a lot of doodles and have developed a specialty," Cleveland said.

The Puppy Lodge starts receiving dogs at 8 a.m., Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturdays. They close at 6 p.m. on weekdays.

Cleveland said to call them at 601-853-4383 or to send them a message on Facebook for an appointment.
