Prep baseball standout commits to Florida
Jackson Prep baseball star Kevin Roberts Jr. announced his verbal commitment to the University of Florida on Sunday.
Roberts, a junior, is ranked as the eighth best player in the country by Perfect Game, establishing himself as one of the best prospects not only in Mississippi, but in the entire nation.
“Grateful for the journey, the lessons, and God’s guidance through it all,” Roberts said in a statement posted to social media. “Humbled to announce my commitment to the University of Florida. All glory to Him! Go Gators!”
Roberts picked Florida over the other schools in his top four, which included Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Texas A&M.
Even with his college commitment, this does not make it a sure thing that Roberts will play for Florida, as he will have a chance to be one of the top high school prospects in the 2026 MLB Draft.
Roberts is also a phenomenal overall athlete, being an all-state basketball player and also running track and field so far in his high school athletic career.
Roberts has already been a factor in two state title runs for the Jackson Prep program and is off to a hot start in his junior season. Roberts has hit for a .413 average, with two homeruns, 14 RBIs, and a .470 OBP.
Jackson Prep will wrap up the regular season this week with a three-game series against Jackson Academy. The MAIS 6A state tournament will begin next week and Roberts will look to lead Jackson Prep to their eighth straight state title.
