Posey resigns as CA football coach
Canton Academy head football coach Gage Posey resigned from his position, he announced in a statement posted to social media on Tuesday night.
Posey leaves the program after compiling a 36-13 record in four seasons as head coach. He also led Canton Academy to the program’s fifth state title in his second season in 2022.
“Thank you to Canton Academy for the last four years of allowing me to coach football and use a platform to spread the love of Jesus and positivity into kids’ lives,” Posey said in a statement. “The relationships I have made at CA will last a lifetime and I am truly grateful to have worked with such great people.”
Posey’s resignation comes after a 6-5 season that saw Canton Academy fall in the quarterfinals of the MAIS 3A playoffs at the hands of Greenville St. Joseph. The Panthers also brought home a district title in 2024.
“The kids at CA are special and have impacted me way more than I could have ever impacted them,” Posey said in a statement. “It will always be a special place to me as I move onto the next chapter.”
Posey leaves Canton Academy as the third winningest coach in school history with 36 wins, only behind Flip Godfrey (98 wins) and Ron Jurney (39 wins). Posey also went a perfect 14-0 in district games, which is the best in school history and compiled a 6-3 record in playoff games during his career.
Canton Academy will now begin the process to find and hire a new head coach to lead a program that has not had a losing season since 2020.
