Police K-9s apprehend man hiding in woods

A Lexington man accused of leadin law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase last week before hiding in a wooded area remains in the Madison County Detention Center after being slapped with a bond exceeding $200,000.

Madison Police Capt. Kevin Newman said that Orlando Taylor, 31, was charged with domestic violence, felony fleeing, and numerous traffic violations last Wednesday. He had his initial court appearance in Madison Municipal Court the day after.

Taylor's bond was set at $202,000. Newman said it broke down to $2,000 for the domestic violence charge and $200,000 for the felony fleeing charge.

Taylor was arrested in connection with an incident that occurred on May 13.

Newman said that at approximately 2:55 p.m., the Madison Police Department received numerous calls of an assault that had occurred on and around Grandview Boulevard near Sam's Club.

Several officers were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival , officers learned that a male subject, driving a white 2010 white Ford sedan, had assaulted a female acquaintance in the area. The male subject would later be identified as Taylor. The female victim was located and given aid by officers.

"The victim was treated and released for minor injuries by Madison Fire and Pafford EMS paramedics," Newman said.

Other officers located Taylor in the white sedan proceeding north on Grandview Boulevard Upon attempting to stop the sedan, Taylor fled in the vehicle.



Police officers pursued him from Grandview Boulevard onto Highway 463 and north onto Interstate 55. Newman noted that as the vehicle pursuit continued north on Interstate 55, deputies from the Madison County Sheriff's Office joined the pursuit.

Officers and deputies continued the pursuit north on Interstate 55, when at mile marker 130, Taylor attempted to pass a truck on the left shoulder of the roadway. The sedan made contact with the truck at which time the vehicle entered the center median losing control.

Newman said Taylor then exited the vehicle and fled into a wooded area. Police K-9s from the Madison Police Department as well as the Madison County Sheriff's Office were deployed into the wooded area by their handlers. A short time later Taylor was apprehended without incident and identified.

Newman reported that there were no injuries to the suspect or others as a result of the pursuit.
