Germantown Athletic Director Gregg Perry was recently named the Mississippi Athletic Administrator of the Year for the Mississippi High School Activities Association’s 5A-7A classifications. Perry was honored with the award at the Mississippi Athletic Administrator Association’s Awards and Recognition Luncheon, which included athletic administrators from around the entire state.

Perry is in his 14th year at Germantown and his fourth year leading the athletics department, being one of the first employees to be at Germantown when the school opened its doors in 2011.

“It’s rewarding to be mentioned with some of the great athletic directors from around the state,” Perry said. “It’s just one of those things where I come to work every day and focus on Germantown and what we can do to make it better.”

During his time at the helm of the athletics department for Germantown, the athletics program has seen championships in sports like girls basketball and golf.

Additional sports such as bass fishing have also been added to Germantown’s number of athletic programs during Perry’s tenure.

“For me it’s about doing everything we can for these athletes and Germantown to succeed,” Perry said. “I have received accolades before, but at the end of the day if someone says Germantown has a great athletic department and athletic programs, what more could you ask for.”

Perry now turns his focus towards the future of Germantown athletics and will look to continue to grow and find more success for the program for the high school in one of the state’s fastest communities.

“Growth hasn’t really been a problem around here, our community has been growing like crazy and we hope it continues to be more of the same,” Perry said. “We are going to continue to press to raise money through our booster club and continue to give our coaches and programs what they need to continue to be successful. We play in the largest classification in the state and one of the best regions in the state for athletics, so we know our work is cut out for us, but we know that the bright days are ahead.”
