Parlor 18 Eighty Six brings nightlife to Flora
FLORA — Parlor 18 Eighty Six hopes to bring a little nightlife to downtown Flora with craft cocktails, bar food, and live music.
The new bar at 4840 E. Main Street Suite B is named after the year Flora was founded. The owners opened their doors in March and have enjoyed getting to know the community.
“We have gotten great feedback from just about everyone,” Manager John Poore said. “People found a way to leave us positive Yelp reviews and I don’t think we were even online yet.”
Parlor 18 Eighty Six has a menu that includes a selection of sliders, flatabreads and dips as well as other offerings.
Poore said the original concept was to have a craft beer and bourbon bar. Those libations still factor into the personality of the place but Poore said they were quickly struck by how popular their food menu has been.
“We have kind of made the transition to being a restaurant with a nice bar,” Poore said.
Specifically, Poore said, their flatbreads have been a hit with families with small children.
“We are a family-friendly establishment,’ Poore said.”Kids love our flatbreads.”
You can still find a well curated selection of beer and bourbon behind the bar though. Poore said they also have a rotating menu of craft cocktails that will update based on the popularity of drinks and seasonal ingredients on hand.
Jason Dean owns the establishment. His family already owns the clothing store next door. He said the abundance of development both in Flora and nearby at the Madison County Mega Site told him Flora is “on the verge of something special.”
Dean said Mayor Les Childress and the Flora aldermen have “been very easy to work with” and have welcomed them to the city.
“We think Flora is a place that reflects our values,” Dean said. “We live just 13 minutes away so it is our small town and we wanted to invest our time and resources into its future.”
