Parents who will open their homes and hearts to kids who have experienced trauma by providing a safe, nurturing and loving environment are needed in Madison County and an event Thursday evening at The Township highlights National Foster Care Month.

May is National Foster Care Month and Catholic Charities Inc., with the Diocese of Jackson will host “Run Foster Run” at The Township with a children’s 1-mile fun run at 5:30 p.m., followed by a 5K sunset run/walk at 6 p.m.

“This race is to bring awareness about the need for foster parents in the Jackson area,” said Amy Turner, adoption director for Catholic Charities.

“We need parents to open their homes and hearts to kids who have experienced trauma to provide them a safe, nurturing and loving environment.”

Turner said older children are getting ready to leave the system and they need parents to teach them independent living skills and other skills that will help them succeed when they are on their own.

“There will be challenges that come along and the Therapeutic Foster Care team is always available to provide support and walk beside our families,” she said. “They are changing the future, one child at a time.”

All proceeds for Run Foster Run will benefit the foster care programs of Catholic Charities.

All participants will receive a T-shirt and swag bag and participants who are 21 or older will receive a free drink ticket.

The event will be music, libations and fun, and it is suggested to invite friends and family to join in. Restaurants in The Township are open to racers after the race.
