Out-of-state trio arrested for stealing mail
A trio from Texas and Arizona has been arrested and charged with petit larceny in connection with several thefts from post office boxes in the Metro-Jackson area.
Madison Police Lt. Micah Taylor identified the suspects as 21-year-old La Keith D. Fountain of Houston, Texas, 22-year-old Quintin R. Hall of Spring, Texas, and 25-year-old Jazmine R. Page of Avondale, Arizona.
“At this time all three suspects were booked into the Madison County Detention Center on charges of petit larceny and were given no bond as the investigation continues,” Taylor said.
According to Taylor, on Aug. 5, the Madison Police Department and the United States Postal Service began investigating the break-in of several blue postal collection boxes in the metro area, including one large collection box in the city of Madison.
The investigation revealed that one mailbox containing 133 checks totaling about $70,000 was broken into at 990 U.S. 51 in the city of Madison, one mailbox in the city of Brandon, and four mailboxes in the city of Jackson.
“Investigators are working with each respective agency to bring this case to a close. Additional charges are expected as the case progress,” Taylor said.
Investigators began gathering evidence that led them to a suspect vehicle, Taylor said. This vehicle was located on Lakeland Drive and following a traffic stop, suspected burglary tools were located inside the vehicle and Foutnain and Page were arrested.
Investigators with the Madison Police Department, US Postal Service, Capitol Police Department and Hinds County Sheriff’s Department located an additional suspect, Hall, at the Red Roof Inn off of High Street.
“Once inside the room, additional evidence to include stolen checks and other packages linking them to the break-in was collected,” Taylor said.
