JACKSON – New Stage Theatre recently announced its fall 2022 class schedule which includes the Youth Acting Troupe and Kids Studio.

Artistic Director Francine Reynolds said New Stage has a reputation for offering first-rate professional classes for youth.

“We receive five-star reviews such as ‘I love acting and this is one of my favorite places to do so,’” Reynolds said. “Feedback from students and parents consistently state that the experience we provide builds confidence and teaches valuable acting skills while still being fun.”

New Stage’s fall session begins September 3 and runs through December 17. Classes are available for youth, from first graders to seniors.

The Youth Acting Troupe (YAT) is every Saturday from September 3 – December 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at New Stage’s Warehouse Theatre (1000 Monroe Street). The class cost is $400 for 15 sessions and is geared towards grades 6 to 12. No previous acting experience is necessary for the YAT.

Scene studies, a holiday performance, and a spring Shakespeare show are all on the menu for the YAT this year. Students have performed plays at New Stage’s Warehouse Theatre, Belhaven Park, the Willie Morris Library, Highland Village, the Mississippi Museum of Art, the Pearl Library, The District, and at the Mississippi Children’s Museum.

The Kids Studio is every Saturday from September 17 to October 29 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at New Stage Theatre on 1100 Carlisle Street.

The class cost is $150 for six sessions and is geared towards students in the first through fifth grade. Participants can activate the elements of story through creative play, group improvisation, and problem solving.

The Kids Studio is an energetic and immersive class setting, and students will be on their feet learning the basics of storytelling, building self-confidence, creativity, and collaboration.

Students will use acting exercises, craft projects, and imaginations to bring stories to life. Family and friends are invited to a demonstration that showcases favorite acting exercises and stories on the last day. All skill levels welcomed.

Masks may or may not be required of all participants based on CDC guidelines throughout the duration of the semester.
