Auditions are underway at New Stage Theatre through August for for the upcoming season.

Aspiring actors who are interested in roles should attend.

Auditions for youth ages 6 to 17 will be held on Saturday, July 16, and auditions for adult actors ages 18 and up will be help on Monday, August 15.

Artistic Director Francine Thomas Reynolds said New Stage is excited to present a season with a full slate of shows offering many wonderful opportunities.

“We have frequently found new faces from the auditions, and I can’t wait to be amazed by the talent demonstrated by them and our more established actors,” Reynolds said. “Since we are producing several large cast shows this season that need a variety of local, regional, and national actors, I encourage any interested singer, actor, and performer to come to the open auditions.”

New Stage is seeking all types of male and female adult actors and singers ages 18 and up and child actors ages 6 and up to play roles in shows such as “August Wilson’s Fences,” “Clue,” a mystery comedy based on the hit board game, “The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams, and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music.” New Stage follows an inclusive casting policy, which means that casting is open to all actors regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, disability, or age.

Actors and/or singers who are also instrumentalists are needed for the musical “Ring of Fire,” based on the music of Johnny Cash. The theatre is also seeking a strong solo actor for Duncan McMillan’s “Every Brilliant Thing.”

“We are looking forward to seeing the best actors, singers, and actor/musicians that Mississippi and the South has to offer and finding a place for them on stage at New Stage Theatre during the 2022-2023 Let’s Gather Together 57th Season,” Reynolds said.

The upcoming season’s selection of plays offer the opportunity to cast a wide range of diverse talent from the powerful female roles in the Tennessee Williams play to complex people in “Fences.”

New Stage said adult and child singers and actors are also needed for “The Sound of Music,” along with instrumentalists and vocalists for “Ring of Fire,” including acoustic and electric guitars, double bass, banjo, fiddle, and violin.

Directors viewing the auditions will also be considering actors for other projects during the year, such as “The Unframed” at New Stage Theatre Series and “The Eudora Welty New Play Series” in the Hewes Room Theatre and Warehouse Theatre spaces.

Beginning on July 1, actors can register for an audition appointment online at www.newstagetheatre.com/general-auditions. Actors who are interested must have an appointment to attend the audition.
