Music academy opening in August

A Jackson-based music and arts academy will open its doors here in August.

Mitchell McGinnis, the founder and director of 601 Studios, said Gluckstadt “seemed like a natural fit” for his second location.

“We have worked with so many great families in Gluckstadt and Canton and the surrounding area who have been coming to Jackson, and now we are coming to them,” McGinnis said.

601 Studios opened its doors in Jackson in March of 2021.

601 Studios offers a number of classes and camps that will help any student pursue the art of their choice.

“We want to help you on your journey to master the instrument or art of your choice,” McGinnis said.

For example, 601 Studios recently made a social media post about a student who had committed to Carnegie Mellon for musical theater.

601 takes students starting at age five, but McGinnis said they do not stop when students graduate from High School. 

“We have a student who is 79 years old,” McGinnis said.

The Jackson facility currently has around 350 students at peak enrollment and McGinnis said they hope to have as many as 300 students at the Gluckstadt location as well. 

“I think the Gluckstadt location could grow to be just as big,” McGinnis said.

McGinnis said they try to find the best teachers they can.

“We have a lot of good teachers with a range of expertise and knowledge,” he said.

Pre-enrollment has already reached around 50 students.

The new studio will be located at 1085 Gluckstadt Road near Gluckstadt Dental Clinic. Their current location is off of Lakeland Drive in Jackson.
