Man trapped in collapse recovering

MADISON — A utility construction worker was airlifted to UMMC last Wednesday evening after a trench collapsed on Hoy Road near Charlestowne Square, the authorities said.

The call came in at about 6:20 p.m. prompting a response by the Madison Fire Department to free the individual trapped beneath the collapsed dirt.

Medical personnel were staged in the area and once the man was freed he was airlifted to Jackson.



The Chain Electric worker was "alert and responsive," Madison Police said.

"Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and began efforts to free the worker trapped beneath the collapsed dirt," a release from MPD stated. "Medical personnel were staged in the area and once the worker from Chain Electric was freed, he was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson."

At the time of his airlift, the worker was alert and responsive, according to police.
