Man surrenders on assault charge

RIDGELAND — A Yazoo City man was arrested here and charged with domestic violence after he turned himself in on Tuesday.

The man, Ashford Martel Nelson, 37, was charged with aggravated domestic violence, RPD Lt. Brett Bertucci said. Nelson turned himself in at the Ridgeland Police Department on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Nelson turned himself in after Ridgeland Police released a mugshot of Nelson through social media on Monday morning, asking for the public’s assistance identifying Nelson.

According to Bertucci, the incident took place on Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the parking lot of the Family Dollar, 1606 E. County Line Road in Ridgeland.

RPD is releasing no further information at this time about the victim or the incident in order to “protect the victim’s identity,” Bertucci said.
