A repeat violent offender remains in the Madison County Detention Center on $150,000 following his arrest in connection with a tussle with police at a Ridgeland bank last Wednesday.

Terrance Nequail McChristian, 30, of Jackson was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, aggravated assault on law enforcement, reckless driving and felony fleeing arrest last Thursday morning.

Ridgeland Police Chief John Neal said that McChristian was also wanted on warrants for sexual battery and domestic violence.

McChristian remains in the Madison County Detention Center with no bond.

Neal said that his officers with the valuable assistance of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force were able to locate McChristian on the morning of Sept. 17. McChristian was arrested in the Cowboy Maloney and Northern Tool parking lot off Beasley Road at approximately 8:30 a.m. by the US Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force.

Neal said that the incident with McChristian started the previous day when his officers received a call about an incident at a local bank.

That day at approximately 11:45 a.m., RPD officers responded to Regions Bank located at 1240 E. County Line Road, for a disorderly customer in the bank. Officers were advised this subject was harassing bank employees and they could not get him to leave the bank. As Ridgeland PD officers arrived, they observed the suspect’s vehicle parked in the parking lot. They then encountered the subject inside the bank.

“Officers were advised upon arrival, the suspect had outstanding arrest warrants through Ridgeland PD for sexual battery and domestic violence,” Neal said.

As an officer encountered the suspect in the bank, he was placing him under arrest and the subject began resisting him. The suspect then ran to his vehicle that was parked in the parking lot.

Officers gave chase on foot, deployed tasers — which Neal notes were ineffective — and attempted to pull him from the vehicle as he was backing up.

An officer was caught between the open door and the vehicle and was struck by the vehicle as it backed up. Neal said the officer suffered minor injuries and was able to remain at work.

The suspect backed into an unoccupied patrol vehicle and fled out of the parking lot as he drove over a curb and grassy area. Arriving back-up officers were able to give chase for a short distance on County Line Road and Ridgewood Court until his driving became too erratic the pursuit was terminated.

The subject was identified through the license plate registration as McChristian.
