Madison trick-or-treating on Oct. 30

Madison and Flora are moving trick-or-treating to Saturday, Oct. 30, while Canton and Ridgeland are sticking with the 31st.

“Many people attend church on Sunday, and since Monday is a school day and people are going to work, we’ve moved trick-or-treating to Saturday night,” said Madison Police Department Capt. Kevin Newman.

“While the city is recognizing this, we’re also leaving the decision up to specific neighborhoods. While they are allowed to do this, we ask them to let us at the police department know so we can provide extra patrols for their neighborhoods.”

Newman said the police department usually puts out a Facebook post ahead of time to remind people to stay aware of children out in the street trick-or-treating.

“We want to make sure everyone stays safe,” Newman said.

Flora

Flora Mayor Leslie Childress said the city is also moving to Saturday as well.

“We’re doing it Saturday because it works better schedule-wise,” Childress said. “People are at church on Sunday, so it’s better for everyone and easier to do it the night before.”

Childress said in conjunction with Halloween, the 11th Annual Flora Car Show also falls on Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with silent auctions, hospitality tents, vendors and games for the children. Childress said the car show will be held in downtown Flora at 4849 Main Street.

Ridgeland

The city decided to stick to the tradition of trick-or-treating on Oct. 31, said Lisa Walters, assistant to Mayor Gene F. McGee.

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, Ridgeland will hold its 2021 Trunk or Treat at Freedom Ridge Park and is open to the community.

“If someone would like to volunteer to host a trunk with treats, they need to show up by 5:30 and complete a registration form from our office,” Collier said. “The event is for children ages 10 and under with a $5 fee per child. We’ll also have a movie playing.”

For more information about Oct. 28’s Trunk or Treat, visit the Ridgeland Parks and Recreation Facebook page or call 601-853-2011 for volunteer information.

 Canton

Anthony Denton, an assistant to Mayor William Truly Jr., said Canton is sticking to Oct. 31.

“We’re also doing Trunk or Treat at the Canton Community Center from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29,” Denton said. “In regard to Halloween, all we ask is for everyone to be as safe as possible.”
