Madison tax offices to close for 2 weeks
MADISON — The county annex here will be partially closed for the next two weeks for remodeling.
County Administrator Greg Higginbotham told supervisors on Monday that the plan is to shut down the inside operations beginning Friday, Nov. 22.
The annex houses the Tax Collector and Tax Assessor offices.
“The inside of the building will be shut down for two weeks,” he said. “The drive-thru will remain operational during the project.”
Higginbotham said residents will still be able to pick up car tags at the location in the drive-thru, and that they are currently working to accommodate residents who need to conduct business with the Tax Assessor.
The building will be fully operational by Dec. 9, officials said.
Higginbotham said this remodeling is part of a long-term plan to make county office buildings look similar to make maintenance easier.
He said this specific project entails “getting rid of that ugly green tile that screams late-90’s bank.”
It’s not much more than a fresh coat of paint and some new carpet, he said.
Board President Gerald Steen said the Tax Collector and Tax Assessor have both agreed to do what they can to make sure the job gets done as quickly as possible.
“The next thing is really good communication to let people know,” he told Higginbotham.
At the end of the day, Higginbotham said the new annex would look similar to recent changes made at the Sheriff’s Office. He said the county was going towards “uniformity” with its buildings in an attempt to make it easier to order replacement materials knowing everything is essentially the same color and same kind.
