Madison Station Elementary is once again a National Blue Ribbon School, recognized for the second time in school history as one of the best schools in the nation.  The K-5 school in the Madison Zone is a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School, the highest recognition awarded to schools in our nation. This prestigious honor bookends the decade with top honors; in 2010 the school won its first National Blue Ribbon School award.

“Madison Station has a long history of high academic achievement,” says Principal Martha Hanna, “We strive to provide all students the opportunity to excel through an arts integrated curriculum, providing relevant, diverse, and challenging learning experiences in a safe and positive environment.”

Only 367 schools in the entire nation are recognized as 2020 Blue Ribbon Schools, placing Madison Station Elementary among the top schools not only in Mississippi, but also in the U.S. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes both public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. The honor affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content. National Blue Ribbon School recognition is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.

“Madison Station Elementary is truly the embodiment of our motto, Mark of Excellence,” says Superintendent Charlotte Seals, “We are thrilled so see the hard work and dedication of our faculty, administrators, students, families, and community recognized as the best in the nation. While special awards and honors are great, the real prize is knowing the students in each and every one of our schools are receiving a truly exemplary education.”

Academics, arts integration, fitness and wellness, and character development are all key components of Madison Station Elementary’s mission. The school is dedicated to providing all students the opportunity to excel through an arts integrated curriculum providing relevant, diverse, and challenging learning experiences in a safe and positive environment. Madison Station is home to nearly 1,000 students and more than 100 faculty members.

“Being named a National Blue Ribbon school is the highest honor a school in our country can receive, and for Madison Station, this is the 10 year anniversary of our initial award,” says Hanna, “This award serves as recognition and validation for our community of our unprecedented dedication to educational excellence.”

The 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony will be held virtually, due to the pandemic, on Nov. 12 and 13 at which time recognized schools will receive plaques and flags commemorating this monumental honor.
