Madison planning Festival of Trees

MADISON — Planning for the annual Festival of Trees in conjunction with Hometown Holiday Christmas on Main Dec. 1 is under way here.

Amy Cummins, events coordinator for the city of Madison, said the Festival of Trees is a program where local businesses can sponsor a real or artificial Christmas tree and decorate them as they see fit.

“Businesses can sponsor a live tree for $200 or an artificial tree for $400,” Cummins said. “The live trees are around six or seven feet tall and the artificial trees are around eight to 10 feet tall.”

The trees will be gathered around the Red Caboose on Main Street, and Cummins hopes to have the trees on display by Thanksgiving, depending on when the trees are delivered to the city.

Holiday Hometown Christmas on Main is an even where residents can observe the Christmas trees and celebrate the village on display in front of the Red Caboose.

“We are having a Hometown Holiday Christmas on Main event on Dec. 1,” Cummins said. “During this event we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the village we put out in front of the caboose with a service at 5:15 p.m. followed by a Christmas Tree Lighting at 5:30 p.m.”

Cummins said after the tree lighting, attendees can enjoy a showing of “The Polar Express” at 6 p.m. on Main Street, weather permitting.

“If the weather is not cooperating we’ll have it in the Madison Square Center for the Arts gym,” she said. “Hot cocoa and popcorn will be served along with pizza provided by Pizza Shack. It is a free event for all, so bring your pajamas and blankets.”
