Madison hosting children’s event

The city of Madison’s annual “Tractors, Trucks and Big Stuff” event is the perfect place for children to learn all about large equipment such as recreational and emergency vehicles and heavy machinery, according to event organizers.

The event is happening at Liberty Park on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot next to the soccer fields. The city is serving refreshments such as coffee, hot chocolate, popcorn and donuts.

Amy Cummins, events coordinator for the City of Madison, said the event is an annual, fun, hands-on learning experience for children to explore a variety of vehicles and heavy machinery such as fire trucks, police cars, school buses, and more.

“These vehicles will be available for the kids to play on and they’ll get to blow the horns and have pictures made,” Cummins said. “Kids love the big machinery and vehicles and this gives them an opportunity to see them up close and personal. They can see the different knobs, gears, and other things. They look at these things from afar and wonder how they work, so with this event they can see all of this stuff up close.”

The event will include a train ride and inflatables for children to play on, and the city will provide machinery and vehicles such as machinery from the Madison Public Works Department, school buses from Durham School Buses, garbage trucks from Waste Management, and police cars and fire trucks from the Madison Police Department and Fire Department.

The event is free to the public.
