MADISON — A former doctor pleaded guilty to touching a child for lustful purposes in court last week.

Neelesh Ajit Tipnis, 49, pleaded guilty to touching a child for lustful purposes on Jan. 27, a Wednesday, in Circuit Court. He remains in custody at the Madison County Detention Center.

Assistant District Attorney Ashley Allen said he will remain there until he is sentenced at a later date.

“The victim and the family will be given a chance to weigh on in what they want to see happen to him,” Allen said.

Allen said that any time he is ordered to serve will be “day-for-day time,” meaning Tipnis will not be eligible for parole. He could face as many as 15 years behind bars. Tipnis also will have to register as a sex offender for life after he is released.

He was originally charged with sexual battery and pleaded to the lesser charge of touching a child for lustful purposes.

Tipnis was arrested by Madison Police in January 2020 after it was discovered by the parents of a 14-year-old girl that he had made inappropriate electronic communications with their daughter in December 2019.

Tipnis surrendered his medical license and was fired from the Mississippi Center for Advanced Medicine shortly after his arrest.
