Madison County supervisors voted 3-2 this morning to opt-out of allowing medical marijuana dispensaries.

District 1 Supervisor Sheila Jones, District 2 Supervisor Trey Baxter and District 3 Supervisor Gerald Steen voted in favor of opting out of only the dispensary portion of the medical marijuana law. The county will still allow for the cultivation, processing, and transportation of medical marijuana.

Supervisors had until tomorrow to opt-out of any or all of the law before automatically being opted in.

The supervisors cited concerns over the regulation of dispensaries and public safety in their decision.

District 4 Supervisor Karl Banks and District 5 Supervisor Paul Griffin voted against, citing the majority of Madison County residents who voted in favor of Initiative 65 as their reason.
