Madison County Banker Chris Roberts elected President of Mississippi Young Bankers
JACKSON – Madison County banker Chris Roberts has been elected to serve as president of Mississippi Young Bankers, a section of the Mississippi Bankers Association.
Since 1950, Mississippi Young Bankers has been active in providing leadership development activities, supporting financial literacy programs of the MBA and its member banks. MYB members are involved in administering scholarship programs for high school and college students, supporting the MBA Education Foundation, and advocating policy positions important to a strong banking industry.
Roberts serves as City President for BankPlus in Canton. He has over 20 years of banking experience, beginning his career with M&F (now Renasant Bank). He moved to BankPlus in June 2014 focusing on business development and commercial lending. Roberts earned his bachelor’s in business administration in marketing from Mississippi State University in 2002 and is a 2017 graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at LSU.
Roberts has been involved with the MBA since the beginning of his banking career and previously served on the MYB Council from 2019-2022, and then as Treasurer 2023-2024 and Vice President 2024-2025. In addition to his role as president of the MYB, Roberts will serve as a trustee for the Mississippi School of Banking and on the MBA Education Foundation Board. He will also serve a one-year term as ex-officio member on the MBA Board.
Also, very involved in his community, Roberts has served as a County Chairman, was the 2016 Group 6 Chairperson of the Year, and has participated in the MYB “Banker in Every Classroom” program. Roberts was named to the Mississippi Business Journal Top 50 Under 40 in 2017, the Madison City Chamber Top 10 Under 40 in 2017 and was the Madison County Business League and Foundation Young Professional of the Year in 2017. Roberts was part of the Class of 2019 Best Dressed Jackson, raising funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society, and participated in the Real Men Wear Pink Campaign in 2022, raising funds and awareness for breast cancer. He was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Madison County Business League and Foundation in 2022.
Roberts is a member of Chapel of The Cross in Madison and is a graduate of both Leadership Madison County and Leadership Greater Jackson.
Roberts and his wife, Lisa, have three children, Lucy, Hugh, and Oliver.
Since 1889, the Mississippi Bankers Association has been the statewide trade association of the state’s banking industry. The MBA supports its member banks through education, advocacy, communications, and products and services. The MBA established Mississippi Young Bankers in 1950. Today, MYB is one of the oldest and most active organizations of its type in the nation. MBA member institutions hold over 95% of the bank deposits in the state.
