Madison Central, St. Andrew’s win swim titles
Madison Central and St. Andrew’s both brought home MHSAA swimming state titles earlier this month at the Tupelo Aquatic Center, with the Jaguars bringing home the Class III title in both the girls’ and boys’ division, while St. Andrew’s won the boys’ title and was second in the girls’ division for Class I.
The St. Andrew’s boys’ team broke several school and Class I state records en route to their title, including William McCaffery breaking the 500 yard freestyle record and Elias Abraham breaking the 100 yard freestyle record, while the Saints’ 200 yard freestyle relay team and the Saint’s 400 yard freestyle relay team broke records in those competitions as well.
As for Madison Central, both the girls’ and boys’ teams won team titles. In the boys’ relay events, the Jaguars finished first in one event and second in two events. MJ Covington won the 100 yard butterfly and Jaden Davillier won the 200 yard individual medley and the 500 yard freestyle to win individual gold medals.
In the girls’ competition, the Jaguars won all three team relay events they participated in, including the 200 yard medley relay, 200 yard freestyle relay, and 400 yard freestyle relay. In the individual portion of the competition, Paisley Albritton won the 200 yard individual medley and 100 yard breaststroke. Mollee Messer, Carly Long, Jenna Moulder, Gigi Nguyen, and Isabelle Pike also medaled in different events during the individual portion of the competition.
That is now five straight boys’ state titles and eleven straight girls’ straight titles for the Madison Central swim program.
As for other area teams, the Germantown boys’ team finished seventh in the Class III championships, while the Germantown girls’ team finished fourth in the Class III championships.
