Students from Madison and Ridgeland are taking part in New Stage Theatre’s upcoming performance of the beloved classic “The Sound of Music” that runs through Dec. 21.

Madison actors include Kate Yost, Grace Coon and Frannie Dean, and Ridgeland actors include Gigi Fitzsimmons, Ethan Hartfield, Maggie Kate Roberson and Piper Roberson.

The musical is based on the 1949 memoir “The Story of the Trapp Family Singers,” written by Maria Augusta von Trapp. Her life was later fictionalized in Rodgers and Hammerstien’s Broadway musical in 1959, “The Sound of Music.”

Artistic director Francine Thomas Reynolds said “The Sound of Music” is perfect for the holiday season with its touching and timeless story.

“Considered by many to be the world’s most beloved musical, this collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein reminds us that music is truly a blessing. I am thrilled New Stage is finally presenting it. This family favorite includes the well-known songs ‘My Favorite Things,’ ‘Sixteen Going on Seventeen,’ ‘Climb Every Mountain,’ and ‘The Sound of Music.’”

Curtain times for the performances are Tuesdays through Saturdays at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Sundays. Ticket prices are $40 with discounts available for students, senior citizens, military, and groups.

Tickets can be purchased at the box office, over the phone at (601) 948-3533, or on New Stage Theatre’s website at www.newstagetheatre.com.

New Stage Theatre is located at 1100 Carlisle Street in Jackson.
