Lost Rabbit residents oppose development
LOST RABBIT — Residents here are fighting back against plans by developers to build residential housing units in nearby green space.
Residents hope to get a judgement in their favor regarding the future of the green space from the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District Board, which meets this morning.
Developers are asking for the PRV board to allow a three acre lot in the subdivision to build four residential housing units, Donna Taylor, a resident of Lost Rabbit explained.
“A bunch of the neighbors are all opposed to this development,” Taylor said.
The green space in question is located in the neighborhood just off of Old Trace Road and currently functions as a park right on the Reservoir that the residents have dubbed Shoreline Park.
Taylor said the lot has functioned as a green space for some time. She said she and other residents have documentation including emails and promotional materials where developers said the area was intended to be a green space and would remain one.
Residents also have a petition with roughly 200 signatures from residents of Lost Rabbit and those who work in the businesses located in the development. Taylor said the residents also maintained the park using HOA money.
Neighbors learned of the developer’s intention to build houses on the lot last fall when a group of surveyors were spotted in the area.
According to Taylor, the Shoreline Development Committee ruled in the residents’ favor earlier this month. The PRV board will take up the developers’ appeal at a board meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the Timberlake Campgrounds today, Thursday, March 20, in Brandon.
Taylor said she hopes Thursday’s meeting puts an end to the issue.
“We anticipate the PRV board will vote in our favor but if they do that we believe the developer will likely sue,” Taylor said.
The agenda item appears on the agenda as “Appeal of Denial for Preliminary Plat for Green Space at Lost Rabbit.”
